On Saturday Eric Horwill begins his personal protest with an 81 mile trek around the airfield

And by lunchtime he's already completed 5 laps... Later that night a number of friends and waag volunteers keep Eric company, but none of us could keep up with the 70 year old for more than an hour or two...

The following morning, the media await the brave walkers final lap. |

Eric finally comes into Blakelands for the last time, having walked 81 miles through the night.

Already, the volunteers are getting ready in the assembly areas.

An arty picture of WAAG baloons!

Margaret Rogers, Queen of WAAG, ready for the off!

Already we're getting a lot of attention from private flyers - or maybe Mr Silk...

John McBride, Globetrotting Dustman strikes a pose with baloon.

The head of the march forms up, ready for the start of the 2.7 mile circuit around the airfield. |

To the noise of the band, we get under way at Bobbingon cross roads. |

And they came...

And came...

And came...

And came...

And still they came...

Until finally they stretched all the way to Gospel End Road...

The airport staff come to the permitere to cheer us on (how sweet)...

John McBride heads up the march along Water Lane.

OK Kids I promised you'd be on the website!

The throng reaches the end of Water Lane.

The airport is tucked up like Fort Knox... They must have thought we wanted revenge for all those signs that were taken down!

In fac, things were really tooled up for action. Which was really totally pointless because......

.... the WAAG team are simply to tired from months of campaigning to throw even an egg!

And it all proved too much for some of our younger campaigners.

A big intake of breath, but we streamed past the entrance to Disneyland (well, it's one man's fantasy at least) without so much as an expletive.

... ok, so a few people boo'ed...

but we don't think it hurt their feelings unduly... |

And finally, and rather weary from the heat, over 4000 people make their way, peacefully, back to the car park...

WAAG the dog
We believe beyond doubt that WAAG represents the majority view on these ridiculous plans to expand the airport. WAAG are determined that Mr Silk and his chums will not WAAG the dog of democracy...
